After a long layoff, we had another English-language movie night with our high school students.
This time we watched the 2006 film V for Vendetta. It has something for everyone: sci-fi set in the near future, historical basis, action fighting scenes, and lots of symbolism.
As one of the students pointed out after we watched it, "The 'V' character is a theme more than a person." Another noticed the similarity between the dictator in the film and Hitler in real life and how they used scared people to control them.
The boys in the class also appreciated the bloody action scenes, much more than all the girls did.
The only downside was that the movie clocks in at over two hours long and we didn't have more time to discuss it after it was finished.
